WRAPPING UP THE PARTY- August 5, 2008

Wow, does time fly when you are pregnant.. *grin* So I’m learning something very important about blogging… it’s called, don’t say things like “I’ll add more tomorrow” … eek, like how often at this point in my life does that actually happen? *grin* Ah well. So, I thought I’d share some photos of the party with you all. It was great fun and surprisingly pretty stress-free making everything up. And most importantly it seemed like everyone had a good time on party day.

THE DETAILS – update July 7, 2008

Thanks for being so patient on an update… and please bare with me as I explain this with few pictures.. I’ll add more tomorrow.

We’ve decided to do an alphabet sounds chipboard book (instead of fabric, for ease and time sake) personalized just for the baby.  So what is chipboard anyways?  Here’s what the 6″x6″ blank chipboard pages look like that we ordered from Scrapbooking Warehouse.com.

As you can see they are already hole-punched, how nice!  So what does personalized mean? Provided for the guests will be pages for each letter of the alphabet, with previously cut out and adhered sticky-backed felt letters. Each person may choose a page (or pages if need be) to add pictures to, that correspond with each letter’s sound.  For example, a page for “a” might have an apple made out of scrap cardstock and an ape sticker. They can “create” their own pictures with the materials provided, or there will be several sticker options provided for each letter, so there’s no pressure on those who deem themselves as “unartistic”. *grin*  Here’s a glimpse of the pictures we will print off onto sticker paper since we couldn’t find any cost effective alphabet picture sheets.

On the back, the guest will further personalize the page by signing their name, sharing what book they chose to give the baby (instead of a card as noted on the invitation) and any other words, verses, etc. they’d like to share with the baby.  The completed pages with be stacked together and attached with binding rings.  Hopefully we can surprise Alicia with this at the end of the shower.  *grin*

SPECIAL NOTES: If there is a certain letter that you would like to do, please email Mid or myself so that I can set it aside.  For example, I have designated “d” for Mid (the paternal grandma of the baby) so that she can personalize it using a photo of Gavin’s “d”addy and to follow suit, “m” for the maternal grandma of the baby.  Also, if you are unable to attend but would still like to personalize a page, again please contact us.

I can’t wait to see you all there!  I’ll be updating more this week to give an example of a completed page.

Have a great week!

THE INTRODUCTION

Hello!  I am so excited to share this baby shower project with you!  What exactly is this project?  A cloth story/activity book that will be a cherished keepsake later in life.

For those of you who don’t know, my brother and sister-in-law are expecting the arrival of their little boy in August.  My mother-in-law and I have the privilege of throwing her a baby shower, and one of the ideas that we came up with was to make a cloth story/activity book and have each guest personalize it by writing a note on the back of each page.

We’re still in the beginning stages and ironing out the details, but I can’t wait to share it with you as it comes together!
